Museum Technician

THE POSITION IS FILLED


The position will complete the photographs for the 12,000 artifacts in a small Museum, in the Town of Millet, Alberta under 2200 residents, 40 minutes south of Edmonton for an accredited Alberta museum, archives and visitor information centre. A charity board of directors and one full time staff operated the facility.
Duration of intern - 25 weeks starting September 5, 2011- February 28, 2012
Hours 30 hours/week Monday - Friday
Wage $15/hour and 4% holiday pay
The intern hired must 

be legally entitled to work in Canada
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada
completed a degree and is underemployed
be registered in the YCW candidate inventory
Description of Duties
Use professional standards to complete collection documentation within the Virtual Collections database
Taking professional standard digital photographs and link to the database while maintaining daily preservation techniques of light, humidity and pest management
exceptional ability to communication in speaking and writing English
Compile documentation of photographs and create criteria of the artifacts to be uploaded to the Artifacts Canada and the ARchives Society of Alberta
Assist with the education of the Central Alberta Regional Tourism Group to upload artifacts to Artifacts Canada
Create a virtual exhibit proposal

-  Summer staff

The summer staff projects were funded through the Canadian Museums Association Young Canada Works in Heritage, the federal Canada Summer Jobs program, Archvies Society of Alberta - access to holding grant, Community Spirit Fund, Alberta Museums Association -operational grant, the Summer Temporary Employment Program and the Town of Millet.
